Oceans Home
71% of the Earth is covered in water, and yet, the vast majority of people know little about the ocean beyond the names of the oceans and basic properties of water. For this reason, I want to shed a light on the details of the ocean.
Thanks to @arclight7077 on discord for inspriring me to pursue research in this field.
Marine Engineering
According to Wikipedia, Marine engineering is "the engineering of boats, ships, submarines, and any other marine vessel". This also includes ocean systems and structures, and the career path is joining ships and eventually working as a chief engineer.
Most of the research I will do in this topic will be revolving around WatercraftsWatercraftsWatercrafts are divided into two different types: surface vessels and underwater vessels. Surface Vessels Surface Vessels, such as ships and boats, float ontop of the ocean. Ships usually have three main parts. The keel is the backbone of the ship, running along the center of the ship. The hull is the shell that protects the ship from water. The deck is the floor of the ship. Modern ships have multideck designs, with varying usage of these fundamental parts to create bigger and better ships., the term for all vessels that enter or are able to enter the water.
Oceanography
Oceanography is a broad term that describes the study of the ocean, including "physics, chemistry, biology, and geology". To be more specific, it covers waves, currents, and fluid dynamics of the ocean, which are complex due to shifting weather patterns and the unpredictability of these patterns.
